Exhibition season 2023-2024 at the Louvre Abu Dhabi

The Louvre Abu Dhabi is an art museum opened in 2017 on Saadiyat Island in the UAE, representing the dynamic nature of the modern Arab world and world cultural achievements from prehistoric times to the present day. It cooperates with Agence France-Museums – 17 of the most famous cultural institutions in France, including the National Library of France, the Museum of Decorative Arts, the Louvre – which coordinate the provision of works of art to this museum. The 2023-2024 cultural season at the Louvre Abu Dhabi includes five world-class exhibitions.

Picturing the Cosmos – «Depicting the Cosmos»

Picturing the Cosmos is an educational exhibition at the Louvre Abu Dhabi for children from 4 years old, discovering the cosmos through its depiction in art over the centuries. It has been held at the Louvre Abu Dhabi Children’s Museum since 07/20/2023. The event offers an interstellar space adventure covering three floors of thematic installations, combines art and interactive games for an unforgettable experience. Admission is free for children.

Space-inspired artworks throughout history are presented. A space odyssey unfolds in four exciting themes:

  • contemplation is the observation of celestial bodies through artistic interpretations;
  • Stories are an exciting narrative about stars, galaxies, and the formation of people’s relationships with space over time;
  • measurement is the disclosure of the secrets of the cosmos through scientific inventions, discoveries;
  • Exploration is a place for exploring unexplored outer space, making the dream of
    interstellar travel a reality.

Letters of Light – «Letters of Light»

Letters of Light is an exhibition of works of art, calligraphy, manuscripts of sacred texts of monotheistic religions, artifacts, held from 09/13/2023 to 01/14/2024. The five sections of the exhibits contain the sacred writings of monotheism, sacred books, works by skilled calligraphers, bookbinders, artists, masters of using the technique of precious pigments, illuminated calligraphy.

The entrance to the event was free. Guided tours of the exhibition in Arabic, an educational conversation in Arabic with an English translation, in-depth study of the Arabic language, the history of the compilation and preservation of the Koran over the centuries were available to visitors. Professor Ahmed Ali from the American University of Sharjah presented studies of the Arabic language from different points of view. Visitors were taught the use of rhetorical techniques such as synonymy, parallelism, and linguistic techniques to convey complex ideas and concepts.

Cartier, Islamic Inspiration and Modern Design – «Cartier, Islamic inspiration and Modern Design»

Cartier, Islamic Inspiration and Modern Design was organized with the support of the House of Cartier and took place from 11/16/2023 to 03/24/2024. Admission was free. The Cartier exhibition in Abu Dhabi 2024 included more than 400 works: jewelry, jewelry, drawings, textiles, photographs demonstrating the influence of Islamic art on the design of the products of the French jewelry house Cartier from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day. The presentation with digital projections reproduced the shapes and patterns of Cartier products with Islamic motifs.

Louvre Abu Dhabi

The fourth Art Here 2024 exhibition will be held from 20.09 to 12/15/2024 under the dome of the Louvre Abu Dhabi Museum in the open air. Contemporary artists from the Persian Gulf and North Africa, who create sculptures and audiovisual installations for open spaces, will present their works. Among the outstanding contemporary artists are Feriel Dulen-Zuari, Lamia Gargash, Moataz Nasr, Niken Cossentini, Sarah Almehayri.

The Louvre Abu Dhabi, in collaboration with Richard Mill, strives to support artists in the region by providing a platform for the presentation of art works Art Here. This year’s theme is «Awakenings». The winners of the competition are awarded the Richard Mille Art Prize in the field of art. The entrance fee is 63 dirhams UAE (AED).

From Kalila wa Dimna to La Fontaine Traveling through Fables – «From Kalila wa Dimna to the Fables of La Fontaine: a journey through fables»

From Kalila wa Dimna to La Fontaine Traveling through Fables is an exciting journey through the world of animal fables, organized in partnership with the French jewelry house Van Cleef & Arpels. The exhibition was held from 26.03 to 21.07. 2024 with free entrance for visitors. The literary genre of the fable crosses cultures and centuries, passing on life lessons and values to adults and children. The presentation included illustrated manuscripts in Arabic, Persian, Turkish, and Western works of art. It depicts the fascinating evolution of fables that originated in India and Greece, then developed in the works of Ibn al-Muqaffa and Aesop, reaching its peak with the French fabulist Jean de La Fontaine in the 17th century. The exhibition at the Louvre Abu Dhabi presents 133 works of art, including manuscripts, graphic works, 3D objects.
